Anna Maria Island Beaches: Map, Parking & Which To Choose

Anna Maria Island’s beaches share a Gulf Coast setting, but they do not offer the same day out. Manatee Public Beach and Coquina are useful when you want facilities. Bean Point is a northern-tip walking and scenery destination. Bayfront Park faces the bay and belongs to a different kind of outing.

Use the map and comparison below to choose your first stop, then plan parking around that beach. Trying to sample the entire island by car in one afternoon can spend more of the visit in traffic than on the sand.

Quick Answer: Which Anna Maria Island Beach Should You Choose?

Choose Manatee Public Beach for a convenient first visit with food and facilities, Coquina for a picnic and a longer beach day, or Cortez for another guarded Gulf option in Bradenton Beach. Choose Bean Point for views and a walk rather than swimming, and Bayfront Park for a bay-side picnic.

The island contains the cities of Anna Maria, Holmes Beach, and Bradenton Beach. A beach named in one part of the island can be a different drive and parking experience from another.

Anna Maria Island Beach Map: North to South

The map is a geographic overview of the island, roads, and shoreline. Zoom to identify the north tip, central Holmes Beach area, and southern Bradenton Beach/Coquina area. It does not show live parking availability or establish that every beach path is public.

North: Bean Point and Anna Maria Bayfront Park. Central island: Holmes Beach and Manatee Public Beach. South: Cortez Beach, Coquina Beach, and the Longboat Pass end of the island.

That sequence helps you select a base. If staying near the north end, a Coquina visit is a deliberate cross-island outing, not necessarily the nearest beach walk from your room.

Anna Maria Island Beaches Compared

Destination Setting Best fit Main planning point
Manatee Public Beach Central island, Gulf side A first visit or family beach day Developed facilities and guarded beach; parking demand
Coquina Beach South end, Gulf side Picnic, beach walk, and a longer stay Use the beach lot, not the separate bayside boat-ramp area
Cortez Beach Bradenton Beach, Gulf side An alternative guarded shoreline Less of a full-service setup than the main park beaches
Bean Point Northern tip Scenery and walking Limited parking and no guarded swimming recommendation
Anna Maria Bayfront Park North end, bay side Shade, picnic, and bay views Separate from the broad Gulf swimming beaches

Manatee Public Beach: The Useful First-Visit Choice

Manatee Public Beach is in Holmes Beach at 4000 State Road 64 and Gulf Drive. Its location and facilities make it an easy place to organize a group that needs meals, restrooms, and breaks as well as time on the shore.

The county lists a playground, volleyball, concessions, beach wheelchairs, and a beach mat. These are practical reasons to choose it over a less developed residential access.

Lifeguards are listed year-round, normally 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Labor Day and Memorial Day and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the summer period. Confirm the day’s staffed area and flags when you arrive.

Use the county Manatee Public Beach page for facilities and notices. The county also warns that heavy rain can affect the lot, so a large public parking area should not be treated as unlimited usable capacity.

If I were choosing a first island visit around convenience, this would be one of my starting points. It is better suited to a full day with breaks than a beach where you must leave the area every time someone needs food or a restroom.

Coquina Beach: Picnic Space and a South-Island Day

Coquina Beach is at 2650 Gulf Drive in Bradenton Beach. It is a developed Gulf beach park at the island’s southern end, with facilities that support more than a brief stop.

The county lists picnic areas, grills, pavilions, a playground, concessions, restrooms, showers, a walking trail, and lifeguard facilities. This makes Coquina worth comparing for a family picnic or a group that wants to spend most of the day in one place.

Normal general beach hours are sunrise to sunset unless otherwise posted or permitted. Reserved pavilion arrangements can have different hours, so do not use an event reservation schedule as the beach’s general closing time.

The official Coquina Beach page covers access and facilities. Coquina Bayside’s launches are a separate destination across the road; choose the Gulf beach lot when sand is the reason for your visit.

For a quieter part of the day, take a manageable shoreline walk rather than trying to walk the full island. Stay clear of the pass and obey posted swimming restrictions.

Cortez Beach: Another Guarded Gulf Option

Cortez Beach is in Bradenton Beach north of Coquina. It is useful when you want a Gulf stop in the southern part of the island but are not building the day around a large picnic setup.

Manatee County identifies Cortez as one of its three guarded beaches. Pick a place near the lifeguard area actually staffed that day, and keep children away from structures or areas where signs restrict entry.

Its parking and services are not an automatic match for Coquina’s broader park facilities. If you need a playground, concessions, and a pavilion together, compare the full-service beaches first.

The county Beach Patrol guide identifies guarded beaches and links current conditions.

Bean Point: Plan for a Walk and Views

Bean Point occupies the northern tip of the island. It is appealing when your priority is the coastal view and a shoreline walk, but it is a much simpler access experience than Manatee or Coquina.

There is no large dedicated visitor lot or full park-style collection of facilities. Use a legal public path, check nearby parking signs, and bring only what you can comfortably carry.

Do not choose Bean Point as this guide’s swimming destination. The city has addressed dangerous currents and no-swimming restrictions in the area. Follow all posted no-swimming signs; attractive water at an island tip is not evidence of suitable conditions.

The City of Anna Maria visitor information explains local parking and beach expectations. For swimming with professional supervision, compare the county’s guarded Gulf beaches.

Anna Maria Bayfront Park: A Bay-Side Picnic

Bayfront Park is at 310 North Bay Boulevard. Its views toward Tampa Bay, Egmont Key, and the Sunshine Skyway Bridge give it a different appeal from the Gulf-side beach parks.

The county describes shaded picnic tables and a reservable pavilion with grills. Choose it for a break, a picnic, and bay views rather than treating it as a substitute for the same supervised swimming arrangement found at Manatee Public Beach.

It is also a separate destination from Anna Maria City Pier. Use the official Bayfront Park page when choosing your arrival point.

Parking and the Free Island Trolley

Manatee Public Beach and Coquina are commonly identified as the main free public beach-lot options. Smaller residential accesses can have far fewer spaces and stricter surrounding parking rules. Follow the signs at the exact location rather than treating an empty curb as permission.

In the City of Anna Maria, permitted right-of-way parking requires all tires to be off the pavement. Do not block driveways, park over restricted areas, or rely on a rental property’s directions to override signs.

The county’s free Route 5 Anna Maria Island Trolley normally runs from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., linking the City Pier area and Coquina along Gulf Drive. The published frequency is about every 20 minutes.

Use the official trolley route to choose stops and check service notices. A compact beach bag works better than a large collection of carts and equipment when using transit.

Swimming, Accessibility, and Pets

Manatee County names Manatee Public Beach, Cortez, and Coquina as its professionally guarded beaches. Check the warning flags and the supervised area; the presence of a lifeguard tower does not guarantee suitable swimming conditions.

For accessibility, Manatee has a beach mat and wheelchair arrangements, while Coquina lists beach wheelchairs. Confirm equipment and the usable route before travel if either is essential.

Pets are prohibited at Manatee Public Beach, Coquina, and Bayfront Park. Pet-friendly accommodation does not give a dog access to these beach areas. Service-animal arrangements are distinct.

During turtle nesting season, keep away from marked nests, remove beach furniture at dusk, and follow lighting restrictions. Keep glass out of the beach bag and use only permitted grilling facilities.

Choose One Beach Plan

First visit: start with Manatee Public Beach, spend time on the sand, and take a food break nearby.

Picnic day: choose Coquina and keep the afternoon centered on its beach and park facilities.

Scenic north-end visit: plan a light-packed walk at Bean Point and a bay-side picnic, with swimming reserved for a suitable guarded beach on another part of the island.

Anna Maria Island Beach FAQs

Is Holmes Beach one specific public beach?

Holmes Beach is a city on the island. Manatee Public Beach is a specific developed public destination within it.

Is Bean Point always quiet?

No. Its limited facilities and access can make it feel different from the larger parks, but crowds vary. Choose it for its setting, not a guarantee of empty sand.

Are the Gulf beaches and Bayfront Park interchangeable?

No. They face different water settings and provide different facilities and swimming arrangements. Choose the destination that matches your activity.

Final Thoughts

Manatee and Coquina simplify a full beach day. Cortez adds another guarded Gulf option, while Bean Point and Bayfront Park suit scenic walking and picnics. Choose the beach first and organize transport around that decision.
